SAMSUNG PHONES AS CAR KEY
SAMSUNG IS BRINGING DIGITAL CAR KEYS TO ITS PHONES.
Our smartphones can do almost anything. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy, it can immediately replace your physical car key.
Samsung announced Thursday that Galaxy smartphone owners can use their device as a digital car key, with the ability to unlock, lock, and start their car.
The feature will be available for the first time for the Genesis GV60 electric car launched in Korea.
The digital lock will live in the Samsung Pass app and is available for the Galaxy S21+ and Ultra, Note 20 Ultra and ZFold2 and 3.
The concept of digital car keys is nothing new. Hyundai's 2020 Sonata also includes a digital lock that allows users to lock, unlock, or start their car using a smartphone.
Apple has also partnered with BMW to develop digital car keys for the automaker's luxury cars. With the release of iOS 15 this month, Apple is expanding support for the use of digital car keys as well as home and hotel keys through its wallet app.
